Have you ever had a response or a habit and thought “I could do better than that”. Well your right you can; I can be better too. But how? I have one word for you affirmations. The bible talks about the power of the spoken word. Several verses mention what that ole tongue of ours does. The power of the tongue is talked about in James 3:5-8. (NIV)
5 Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. 6 The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body, sets the whole course of one’s life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.
7 All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles and sea creatures are being tamed and have been tamed by mankind, 8 but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.
It reminds me of a scorpion. This small thing that can be so deadly. Our words can give life or death Proverbs 18:21 & Proverbs 12:18(NIV)
The tongue has the power of life and death,
and those who love it will eat its fruit.
The words of the reckless pierce like swords,
but the tongue of the wise brings healing. It has the power to condemn or justify as we see in Mathew 12:36-37 (NIV)
But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken. 37 For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.”
The most important thing is the instructions we have for our words Proverbs 13:13 (NIV)
Whoever scorns instruction will pay for it,
but whoever respects a command is rewarded.
Keeping all that in mind and going back to affirmations. When we say affirmation what we mean is a positive reinforcement of words that you say out loud. Some people use it as a meditation, and others in conjunction with there devotional time or prayer time.
What is it your struggling with? Think of some positive affirmations you can use to counteract any negative thing you may have said or some one said about you.
You can try these:
I am dearly loved.
I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
The maker of the universe knows my name.
I was made to do great things.
Say them out loud 10 or 20 times a day and see how things begin to change.
