In my own walk with Christ, I’ve spent a lot of time praying to God to change me, search me, help me rid the bad things in my life I know God doesn’t want for me. I’ve spent lots of time praying for others in my life and other believers that I know need the grace and love of Jesus. I’ve found myself looking for things to do to help others in and outside of my church. All those things are great. All of those things are what Jesus would want for my life. But I think there was a key piece missing for me for some time. What was missing for me was sharing Christ with others. Sure serving others is a way to do that. But I mean, talking to others about Christ. Telling my testimony. Letting others know what God can do for them through a trust and faith in His Son. For some of you, that may have been the first thing you did once salvation found you. For others of you, like me, there may have been something holding you back. Ultimately it’s our enemy that does that. He may tell you that your past is too bad for anybody to believe that you are following Christ now. He told me that. He may tell you that you are not good enough to be sharing the Word and leading people to the Way. He told me that. But I overcame what the enemy was telling me by telling him the Word of God. I let the Truth sink in. I wrote it on my heart. I believed it. It occurred to me that sharing Christ with others is a very important task for us. It’s a task that we cannot leave undone. In fact, this task was the last thing Jesus spoke before ascending back into Heaven.
In Matthew 28 beginning at verse 18 the Bible says: Jesus came and told His disciples, I have been given all authority in Heaven and earth. Therefore, go and make disciples of al the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of the: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.
I believe that this is what Jesus would have us all to do. He is with you if you are having your faith in Him. The enemy has no control over you. Share who Jesus is and what He has done in your life with others, so that they may too come to a faith and trust in Him. The disciples of the Bible are long dead and gone, but Christ has made you a disciple of His. Go out without fear and with assurance that Jesus is with you and spread the Word and Good News of Christ. It was their task then, and it is our task now.
May you be blessed and encouraged.
