Remembering

Sometimes you gotta go back so you can remember how you got where you are now. Or more specifically “who” got you where you are now and “who” has been with you  all along. It is in the remembering we can truly see and be thankful for all that God has done for us.

Any body remember Jacob? He was the guy that traded his brother a bowl of bean soup to get his birth right. He is also the same guy who fell in love with one woman and married her sister (Leah) because while hustling he encountered a better hustler who out tricked him. Jacob was a hustler.  He is also the same guy who had a dream about a stairway to heaven and woke up saying “surely the Lord is in this place!” He was also the father of Joseph who wore the coat of many colors. Now I hope that helps you recall the guy I am talking about today but can we just go past the Sunday school versions for a minute? Can I just keep it real, and get all adult about the bible for a second?

Jacob had been through some stuff. Any body reading this been through some stuff ?

Y‘all know what I am talking about family issues, relationship problems, years doing work you didn’t feel was your purpose? I mean I can’t even imagine trying to make two wives happy let alone wives who were sisters! I surely can’t imagine having to clean up the mess after my daughter is assaulted and my sons go in and kill everyone to avenge her. Now that is damage control hard-core. Jacob (later known as Israel)is the head of the family so likely he carried a heavy amount of that stress. But God still had plans for him. His story wasn’t over. Now hear me this is huge:

“Even after all he had been through,

his story wasn’t over. Neither is yours. “

Jacob had pulled through. Not only had he survived some stuff but he came out blessed. Blessed in love, blessed financially and blessed against his adversaries. He had left a place called Luz and set out for Bethel. This time was the second time he had been to Bethel and he was different from the first time.

He was alive and he was blessed. He returned to that place where he had fled to when he was running from Esau just as God had said. But he wasn’t the same. See Jacob means heal grabber or deceiver in hebrew. The old Jacob was a deceiver, the new Jacob “Israel”

Genisis 35:9 After Jacob returned from Paddan Aram,God appeared to him again and blessed him. 10 God said to him, “Your name is Jacob, but you will no longer be called Jacob; your name will be Israel.” So he named him Israel.

I want to tell you that if you have been through some stuff. If the Lord has delivered you from some things and you’re feeling down like you’re just not you anymore. I want to encourage and say Amen! You are not supposed to be that same person. You are older.. You are wiser. Girl you’re stronger and more equipped. Now unfortunately getting older even in our faith is just like getting older in our natural bodies their might be some scares, some things that just don’t maneuver quite like it used to.

Don’t waste another minute focusing on who you used to be from the perspective of wanting to be her again. Rather remember so you can see all that the Lord has brought you through. Remember all those times you shouldn’t have made it. Think about those people who just popped up in your life when you needed some encouragement. Do you think that is by chance? No! That was God. That was his divine call on your life. He was whispering to you all the while he was changing you from the old you to who you are now. You are beautiful. You offer this world something no one else can. Your story is unique and filled with twists and turns. Much like Jacob you might be a little broken down and older but God isn’t done with you yet. It is glory to glory my friends.

May you be blessed and encouraged.
