If you are anything like me and you have been through a tremendous amount of hurt for one life time then you know that sometimes bitterness can be a way we protect the real us. I am going to share a story with you and I hope it helps you see how aweful bitterness can be.
There was a woman that when she was a child her father was a huge alcoholic. She was abused. She was beaten. She began to hate him. The bitterness in her heart manifested on the outside as anxiety, depression, impatient, rudeness, and malice. The woman grew up had kids and went in pretending everything was fine. She took medication for her symptoms like depression. Which didn’t heal her but made it manageable. But when her husband or kids did anything wrong she just fel an ugliness on the inside. No matter what she did Or how much she went to church the feeling didn’t leave. Why? The feeling wasn’t the problem. The problem was a root of bitterness that took hold in the middle of her hurt so long ago. The enemy played on that because she was blind to it. So she wrote all the scriptures about anger and bitterness and carried them in her pocket. She got them out every time that she felt the symptoms. When she prayed she asked God to remove the seeds of bitterness and heal her broken heart. Do you know what? She is absolutely the sweetest woman I have ever met. Her kids grew up to be amazing and she is still married. Now she tells everyone her story.
I want to encourage you today to search your heart ask God to search your hear and I will too.
Let us ask him to remove anything that doesn’t bring us life in Jesus name. Not only that but I say we stand in the gap for our family and we pray God protects their hearts from bitterness also.
