If you are a believer in Christ, the Word says you have been made new. The old is gone and the new has begun (2Corinthians 5:17). That’s amazing. But sometimes we don’t feel new. Day by day Christ is transforming things in our lives and the attitudes we have about things. But it doesn’t all happen at once. And when there has been something that has played a big part in your past, often times, that’s what can take the longest to be totally transformed. In talking to fellow 4Her blogger and bestie Annette Burke as she was going through a very difficult time, in her past as in mine, we would turn to alcohol to forget our problems. I’d take that problem to that drink and just not think about it for that night. So, later on in her walk, like me, sometimes, the enemy puts that urge back into our mind. See, he wants you back into your old ways. Not thinking of God, not honoring and glorifying Him. When those tough situations come into your life, you have to choose to put on the newness you have in Christ.
You have to go take a drink of the Word!
I loved that she said that’s what she was doing! She was putting on the new self. Denying the old self and turning to God for her worries and problems. That’s what God wants. He wants you to make Him your habit. He wants you to lean on Him and find strength in His Word. He wants you to make time with Him your fix. I was so moved by the thought of breaking old habits and making a new habit of going to God’s Word. Do you have a habit that you could leave behind and turn to God’s Word instead? I encourage you to be dependent on Him all the time. Turn to Him. Make the Word a new habit.
May you be blessed and encouraged.
