I find myself day in and day out focused on me. I’ll just be honest. I think about what I want to do. What problems I am facing. What I can do to make my day how I want it to be. How I feel. Sure I think about my husband and my kids, but it seems like it always comes back to me. I’m too focused on me that often times I’m not doing 2 things.
- I’m not focused on the one true living God’s will and power.
- I’m not focused on others and serving.
When I find myself focused on me, I am not focusing on God’s will or His power. I find myself going after my desires and trying to make things happen by my power. When I’m facing problems and focused on myself, I lose hope easily because my power can only go so far. I find myself frustrated and can easily get focused on my own situations and circumstances instead of on what God may be working out in my life. I’m too busy looking around at what’s going on and happening to me that I forget His power and control.
Also, I get too caught up in myself, my life, my problems, and what I want to do, that I don’t use any of my time serving others, honestly sometimes even thinking of others or how they may feel. The Word says in Philipians 2:3-4 Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too. Christ our Lord came and served others while on Earth, but focusing on myself doesn’t allow for that. All my thoughts and actions are directed toward me.
I encourage you today, if you’re reading this and feel like you are too focused on yourself, what you want, the problems you have, if you’re not serving others, looking out for and thinking about others, I want you to change your focus today. Focus instead in the Word and the Almighty God who gave it.
When that focus shifts, your life will change.
And you will be a life giving light in the lives of those around you. So I encourage you, be disciplined and carry out a plan to be in the Word everyday and to switch the focus off of you and this life you’re living in to the power and will of God. Think about His greatness in your trials. Think of His promises in your frustration. You have to be intentional about switching the focus. It won’t happen on its own.
May you be blessed and encouraged.
