1 John 4:7 says: Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.
When thinking this week about hate in the communities around us and in our world, I thought, I don’t understand where it comes from. Why is it that a race is hated or a group of people are hated? I was speaking with my pastor about the hate I had experienced in my life personally when it came to mixed race relationships and what he said to me awoke something in me.
He said he could’ve been the same way (filled with hate and racism and discrimination) IF it hadn’t been for God changing his heart.
It finally sunk in that we have hate around us because people’s hearts are not transformed by God. I found this verse in 1 John that tells us that this is true. Verse 4:7 says, let us love one another, for love comes from God. We have to get that love from God. The verse goes on to say everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. If those around us don’t know God, how can they love because love comes from Him. So, just like I heard preached on Sunday, hate is a heart issue that requires God’s transformation.
So, as women of God, we need to pray for that transformation of people’s hearts. Pray that God’s love will draw them in to His presence and He can begin His work on their hearts when they come to know Him. Pray without stopping about this because God’s transforming power is the only way to rid the hate of our world.
May you be blessed and encouraged.
