In the past, when I looked around at people in the body of Christ, I had a perception in my mind of what the people who served in some way were like. I know for me, I often think they have it all together, they have been a Christian since forever, that they have plenty of time on their hands, that they are older people with no kids and need something to occupy their time with. Since serving myself, I have found that none of those things are true. Those who serve are those who have experienced God’s love and want to share it in the ways He has prepared them to do. And the biggest surprise to me has been that people of all ages serve. They serve in my church and outside those walls. It occurred to me that serving doesn’t have an age limit.
God can use you to bless the life of someone else no matter your age. He can use you and your acts of service to further His kingdom no matter when your birthday is. He has given us all gifts we can use in service and He has given us many different opportunities to serve as well.
1 Corinthians 12:4-6 says: Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone. So, it doesn’t matter if you are young or old, we are all of the same Spirit and have gifts graciously given to us. No matter the number that goes with your name, there are many services that God can put in your path because we all follow the same Lord. The same God empowers us all, no matter our age, to do the things He sets forth to accomplish through us.
So, we can encourage each other, encourage our kids in Christ, and encourage those who feel like they have nothing else to offer. Pray for others to be led by the Spirit to serve and not be afraid because of their age. Pray that God’s gifts given to each of us will shine glory on Him.
May you be blessed and encouraged.
