What in your life right now serves you? Have you thought of that before? This is an odd topic that could be taken down a lot of different roads.
When I used to think of things that served me I thought of things that made me feel good. Most of them only even served me momentarily. Food, lust, alcohol, tv, and plenty more things I can think of that on their own may not be totally toxic but when used to serve my life don’t really serve me long-term. I wish it hadn’t taken me the first twenty years to figure this out. Anything in your life that doesn’t serve you, for your betterment should be moderated.
I am sharing this because I hope some one else will find the freedom that comes with practicing self-control. Now hear my heart, I am not the best at it but the Holy Spirit has helped me overcome more than I ever thought possible.
A person without self-control is like a city with broken down walls. (Prov 25:28)
With out self-control basically it’s a free for all , you and I leave ourselves open for attack.
So I dare you to get rid of anything that no longer serves you. If it doesn’t further your purpose in God’s plan for you get rid of it. Disclaimer here: I am not talking about anyone’s husband or kids. Don’t be ridiculous. People don’t serve us, we worry about serving others, but I am saying this if junk food makes you sluggish let it go. If staying up late makes you hateful, let it go. If you are worried sick about debt start sacrificing and get that junk paid off. Buckle up, put your grown up pants on and start following through with the plans you know God would have for you. If you tell yourself one thing and then don’t do it, then you lied to yourself. I read some where once “If you can’t tell yourself the truth how can you ever believe anything you say.” How can we trust God to meet all our needs when we can’t trust what we believe? Just a thought. So what is the root? What is the deeper issue? I think we said it. It is trust.
Purge your life of the things that do not serve you! I will be here trying to do the same. It is the little tweak that happen over time that in the long run will have made all the difference toward less stress and more happiness. Sometimes we pray for miracles when really we just need to be better managers, myself included while we trust God to supply our need.
Please help me manage my life better. Help me to get rid of the things that no longer serve me. Help me to get rid of the things that waste the precious gift of time you have given me. In Jesus name. Amen.
May you be blessed and encouraged.
