First, Last, Serving

To invent your own life's meaning is not easy, but it's still allowed, and I think you'll be happier for the trouble..png

We live in a culture in America where we always want to be first. We want to win. We want to be first in line. We want to be the first who has the newest technology. I would go as far to say that no one reading this post has ever thought “I’d like to come in last” or “I really hope I’m the last in line”.  The Lord instructs us on how we get to be first in His kingdom. How do we be first in the only race in this life that matters?

In Mark chapter 9 verse 35, it says If anyone would be first, let him be last of all and servant of all. So, to be first, we should be last. And it’s important to not leave out the fact that this verse tells us to be a servant of all.

Everyone we are around, we can serve in some way. There are so many ways to serve one another. Serving may be by listening, providing, helping, sharing. The list can go on and on. Pray that the Holy Spirit will speak the needs of those around you to you so that you can serve them in what they need. Put others at the front of your mind and pray that you hear the guiding of the Holy Spirit. Then, obey and serve how God would have you to do.

It’s always been hard for me to put others before myself. It’s hard for me to serve others who I don’t think deserve it from me. But, I do want to do the will of my Father. Serving can show others the love and power of Christ working through you. It can show people that their life can also be different. It can show people that their needs can be met by the Almighty God. So I pray that He gives me opportunities to put others first and to be a servant to all. Will you pray the same?

Prayer for today:

Father, thank you for giving me the new heart that has a desire to serve you. You are an awesome God. Help me to be less selfish and to think of others before myself. I pray that you guide me through the Holy Spirit into serving all of those around me. I pray for the opportunities to meet their needs. Thank you for equipping me for everything you will ask me to do. I want to be first in your eyes, so help me to be last and a servant of all. It’s in Jesus name that I pray this. Amen.

May you be blessed and encouraged.
