Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God. Colossians 3:2
When we submit ourselves to the lordship of Christ, we are made new according to 2 Corinthians 5:17. And as that new creation, we should think about the things of heaven and not the things of earth. Think about what is eternal, not what is fading. So, on day 10 of the Put off, Put on Challenge, I challenge you to put off thinking so much of the world and what you desire, and put on thinking more about God and your eternal destination.
When we switch our focus to things of heaven and not of earth, many things can change. How we love people, what we do with our time, what our desires are. The list can go on and on. When we think of things of heaven, our focus is shifted from ourselves to God.
What would your life be like if everything you thought about was some how connected back to thoughts of heaven, God, and Christ our Savior?
See, I believe that thoughts lead to actions. So what would you do differently if your thought more of the things of heaven than of earth? What earthly things can you put off so you can put on something heavenly? Ultimately, like the verse says in Colossians 3:2, we have died to this life if we have been raised with Christ. What are you trying to raise from the dead, from the past, from the earth, from your desires? Where are you still trying to live for the world and not God?
It’s important to align ourselves with God’s Word so that He can be glorified in the ways He deserves. So, I challenge you today to think about and ask God to show you where you are focusing too much on things of the world. Then, I challenge you to put it off. Trade it for heavenly thoughts and godly actions.
Prayer for today: Father thank you for all the heavenly promises you give to us. Thank you for making me a child of yours. Forgive me for when I am too focused on the world around me and not enough on you. Father help me to put off the earthy thoughts, desires, and actions and to put on the things of heaven you would have me to think about and do. Father it seems to always be a struggle to put off my desires and things in the world that everyone else seem to do and enjoy, but Father I ask that you give me the power and strength to do so. Where I lack and am weak, I pray you be strong in me. In Jesus name I pray. Amen
May you be blessed and encouraged.
