But I say love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you! Matthew 5:44 NLT.
This is a command straight from the mouth of Jesus. It is very clear about what we should do. So on day 22 of the Put Off, Put On challenge, I challenge you to put on this command and live it out in your life.
Why does it seem so hard for us to do this? I don’t know about you, but I have struggled with this. When somebody persecutes me, says something ugly, hurts me in some way, my first instinct is not to pray for them! I have to be honest when I reveal that I don’t feel love for them in that moment. But the things is, if we truly value what Christ has to say, we should do it. We should love our enemies even when we don’t want to. We should pray for those who hurt us even when they are not sorry. We should do it because it is glorifying to God. We should do it because He commanded it.
Prayer for today: Father thank you for loving me no matter what. Thank you for doing your work in me that rids the hate and fills me with love to pour out. Forgive me for those times when I am not loving. If any hate is in my heart, I pray you bring it to my attention so I can repent. Please guide me by the Holy Spirit to pray for those who hurt me or come against me or who are unloving toward me. You’re Almighty and powerful and I want to do your will. Be with me and guide me. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
May you be blessed and encouraged.
