Today I want you to think about what brings you pleasure. When you’ve narrowed it down to your top three ask yourself these questions:
Do sources of my pleasure point me toward God or away from Him? Am I finding pleasure in food, alcohol, sleep, shopping, sex or some kind of vice? Am I finding it in my worship, my giving, and my quiet time with the Lord? Would I feel different daily if I took the time to really bask in His love? Have you aimed to please people, or God in the past?
Real quick make a list of what brings pleasure into your life. Then put it on the fridge. If everything on the list gives you no pause being on the fridge for everyone to see, then bravo to you. But if what if you didn’t need some of the things on your list? What if you replace one thing on your list with one thing that brings you closer to God? What if the pleasure you found was greater than everything else on your list? What if it was so great it could revive you from the inside out?
Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from him. Truly he is my rock and my salvation; He is my fortress, I will never be shaken. Psalm 6:1-2
[ …Anyone who lives a good life. Who really lives it, has found their way to what we call the three hallmarks of health. These people are defined by 1. Profound significance-They know that they are loved unconditionally, to the center of their being. 2. Unswerving Authenticity- They know who they are, and they are courageously committed to living out their personality and God given talents. 3. Self-giving love-They know others need them, and they are intent on giving of themselves to others on a daily basis (This excerpt is from the book Love the life you live by Les Parrott, Ph.D & Neil Clark Warren, Ph.D founder of e harmony)]
God loves each of us as if there were only one of us –Augustine
Not only does He love us, but He does it even when we mess up.
Men are not worried by things, but by their ideas about things. When we meet difficulties, become anxious or troubled, let us not blame others but rather ourselves, that is: our idea about things. –Epictetus 60A.D.
Now I dare you. Find pleasure today in being you. Find pleasure in giving love to those you care about. Find pleasure in receiving love from your Creator. All you have to do is believe in his son Jesus. Ask for forgiveness, and repent of your sin. He will come into your heart and do the rest. You are an original masterpiece, a wonder, what a bright and fabulous creature you are. There are people in your life that only your smile can revive their soul did you know that? Do not give your glitter to the pleasures of this world for you are precious in his sight.
“What can make me whole again, nothing but the blood of Jesus.” It really is the truth. Years ago I tried every thing; I was just looking for something to make me happy. I turned to bad relationships, drugs, alcohol, food, shopping but nothing I did seemed to last. That haunting emptiness always came back just like the blackness after a sunset. Finally the emptiness overthrew me, I lost everything. When everything was gone that’s when I realized God’s love is the only thing that ever really brought me lasting pleasure. I am blessed that after much hard work, tears, and prayers the Lord has restored my life and my family. I pray you won’t have to lose everything to know who you are, why you are here, and how to find lasting pleasure.
